First published in 1946, Stratego is one of the library’s oldest games with a known designer. Players each assemble their armies across from each other, with units all facing away from the opponent, so each player can see the identities of their own units, but not the identities of their opponent’s. Players then take turns moving their units into enemy territory, looking for the flag that will lead to victory, while trying to avoid bombs and higher ranking units.
